Mobile Innovations Makes Its Case for In-Vehicle Tablet Literally, with MPACaseMaker for PlayBook 2.0

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) March 23, 2012

Driven by widening demand from law enforcement agencies around the world for its MPA PlayBook 2.0 police apps, Mobile Innovations has built a case to help make its own case for cheaper, better and faster in-vehicle policing. Called MPACaseMaker, turnkey benchmarking kit is easily shippable via courier, virtually indestructible, weighs under 20 pounds and contains a PlayBook with BlueTooth keyboard, license scanner, ticket printer and camera connected via USB SmartHub.

After a cross-country tour in a PlayBook-equipped Dodge Charger and subsequent appearance as the featured BlackBerry Alliance Partner at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference (IACP 2011) in Chicago, Mobile Innovations experienced a rapid hike in interest from distant locales such the Caribbean, Africa and Sweden.

After witnessing the MPA In-Vehicle PlayBook 2.0 Platform working live during the tour or at the IACP Show, Police Services officials from outside North America began asking how Mobile Innovations’ MPA for PlayBook 2.0 and BlackBerry would run in their jurisdictions. Attracted by the combination of security and functionality, at a price point eighty percent lower than a ruggedized laptop up-fit, they wanted a way to see MPA PlayBook working in their beats with their own IT.

“Ironically, it often costs much more to fly, put up and pay one of our staff to do foreign-country benchmarking for our MPA PlayBook 2.0 platform, than it does to do an actual MPA PlayBook up-fit,” Explains Mobile Innovations President, Gary Bauer. “With the compact size and durability of the pieces, it made real sense to package our MPA setup into a Pelican hard-case so we could test and prove MPA effectively anywhere with out time or cast barriers.”

Supported remotely by the Mobile Innovations team, MPACaseMaker lets BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) users anywhere in the world accurately and cost-effectively bench test their vehicular IT requirements, without first having to invest in fully up-fitted cruisers. With MPACaseMaker, BES-equipped agencies assess their readiness by using the same in-vehicle peripherals to properly test and verify data access, run queries and input information, as well as perform license scanning and e-Ticketing in compliance with local courts and agencies.

Once installed, the full MPA for PlayBook in-vehicle platform turns the police cruiser into a police station on wheels. Officers in the vehicle can securely access and search multiple police data bases, relay information about their position and status, securely email, SMS and send alerts, scan drivers licenses and print traffic tickets; they can also quickly complete activity and vehicle inspection reports.

Cascade of Powerful PlayBook 2.0 Apps Flows from Niagara Falls BlackBerry Alliance Developer Mobile Innovations

Niagara Falls, Canada (PRWEB) March 16, 2012

BlackBerry Alliance Partner Mobile Innovations couples PlayBook and police cruisers with apps to turn vehicles into mobile work-stations for law enforcement personnel. Secure PlayBook 2.0 apps include data access, error-free license scanning and ticket printing, activity reports, automated vehicle inspection reports, GPS mapping, voice transcription and more.

Known internationally for its cost-cutting law enforcement apps for BlackBerry®, Mobile Innovations has become the world’s first enterprise software developer to release secure data, reporting and encrypted communications applications for PlayBook using the new OS 2.0. A longstanding BlackBerry Alliance Partner and last year’s winner of the Public Sector Wireless Achievement Award, Mobile Innovations has added a dozen new PlayBook applications to its BlackBerry arsenal to go with the flow away from expensive ruggedized laptops and towards affordable in-vehicle tablets like the new PlayBook.

“Our PlayBook 2.0 platform gives officers in police vehicles one hundred percent of the power, speed and security of on-board laptops at about twenty percent of the cost.” Explains Mobile Innovations founder and president Gary Bauer. “A couple of years ago, a tablet was something my kids used for on-line gaming. Now law enforcement can use the PlayBook as a heads-ups display to eliminate onerous paperwork for everything from incident and activity recording, to automated vehicle inspection reports.”

Marrying BlackBerry solutions to law mobile enforcement needs since its start up, the company now offers secure new generation PlayBook apps not just for police services clients, but for any customer who runs a fleet of service vehicles and needs to dramatically reduce paper-related inefficiencies.

Mobile Innovations Puts PlayBook In-Vehicle Productivity On The Map With Goin’ Mobile Cross Country Demo Tour

Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Revving up the powerful engine of a  police package Dodge Charger loaded with BlackBerry PlayBook and Mobile Police Assist (MPA) Software, Mobile Innovations President and founder Gary Bauer kicked off the Eastern leg of their cross-country “Goin’ Mobile” demo tour in Montreal this morning. Riding shotgun with Bauer is Colin Bennett a representative of D&R Electronics, the company who up-fit the vehicle with mounts, lights, sirens and IT to complete Mobile Innovations’ in-vehicle platform.

Covering over 2500 km and visiting a dozen police agencies between Montreal and Halifax, Bauer will demo his company’s MPA in-vehicle PlayBook solution with emphasis on their new MPASmartHub feature, which connects in-vehicle driver’s license scanner, keyboard, lights and sirens control, camera to the BlackBerry PlayBook. Capable of connecting up to 8 peripherals through multiple USB ports, the MPA for Playbook Platform turns any cruiser into a police enforcement centre on wheels for a fraction of the cost of conventional in-vehicle laptop up-fits.

“Just last week, we submitted a bid to up-fit 700 police cruisers with our solution.” explains Bauer. “They called us back to tell us our bid was one tenth of the next bid, and to ask us if we’d made a mistake. This reaction is typical.  But when we point out that a PlayBook costs $200 while a ruggedized laptop goes for $5,000 or more, they begin to get the picture.”

While currently focused on law enforcement agencies, Mobile Innovations tour has garnered much attention from emergency services and utilities along the way.

“With our Goin’ Mobile tour we hope to dispel any doubts about the game-changing nature of our MPA In-Vehicle platform, and that it really is not only better, but cheaper and faster than any other solution out there,” said Bauer. “Not just for police, but for municipal, utility, EMS and fire departments as well.”

Chief’s Annual Update

The Blackberry Project as an operational mobile solution has been recognized across Ontario, and indeed North America, as a leading edge innovation in policing technology that has not only captured the attention of many other Police Services, but has been recognized with several prestigious awards in the technology and public service sector for the very dedicated and hard-working team that has designed and implemented the program. We look forward to working with our team of partners to enhance these capabilities even further in the coming years.

From Our Users: CKPS Goes With MPA

Chatham-Kent Police Service serves in one of the largest municipalities in Canada. To effectively cover this wide area, Chatham-Kent Police Service believed that MPA mobile wireless solution could be part of a cost-effective method of putting information in the officer’s hands, while simplifying management and maintenance.

Using MPA2Factor, MPANiche and other MPA products allows CKPS officers to spend more time in the field and less time in front of a desktop computer at the station. However, any solution would have to meet the stringent security protocols required to access police data.

Solution

After a threat and risk assessment, the BlackBerry solution was chosen for the deployment, largely due to security benefits of the BlackBerry Smart Card Reader and SafeNet Smart Card technology.

Results

  • Better access to important police data
  • Officers have data from CPIC at their fingertips
  • More effective use of budgets
  • Contributes to officer safety
